Last Wednesday, I attended a webinar about "Sustainability: What does it mean for career development" by the Career Industry Council of Australia (Inc) and presented by @Mary McMahon and Elizabeth Knight.
But what environmental sustainability has to do with careers?
Everything!
The world is constantly changing; understanding where we are and how we are moving forward helps us, career development practitioners, to support better individuals in making a career choice that is not only for themselves but to serve others.
In my Career Strategy workshops, I brought up my view that we are part of the current situation, and the skills we acquire are not just for our indulgence but mainly for us to help others. In any career or job, we are using our skills to contribute to society daily, independently, if we are employed by an organisation or running our businesses. So we are always serving others with our abilities.
When we think about career versus sustainability and our roles in our profession, we must be sure we can provide future generations with a pathway to meet their needs. It means a sustainable development of our own needs and others, understanding there is an interconnectivity between life and career in the present and future.
When we value well-being as an essential foundation for life and career, we work proactively towards better inclusive sustainability for us right now and for future generations. Being conscious about our responsibilities in supporting the development of society, it's a pivotal action to spread the greatest to more people.
Is your career sustainable? How are you in your career making this planet healthy and sustainable?
